456 New Shanghai

69 Mott St., Manhattan, NY, 10013
View Website

Description

Shanghai is most famous for steamed soup dumplings, filled with pork or a pork/crab combo, and the specimens found here do not disappoint. The fried tiny buns with pork are delicious too. So are crispy turnip pastries, the pork shoulder in honey sauce and the braised duck in scallion sauce. 456 New Shanghai is popular at lunch with office workers and those on the jury pool, and at night there's often a line out the door. When it was known as 456 Shanghai Cuisine, a rave from The New York Times really put it on the map , attracting a high number of non-Asians. It's a brightly lit, efficient operation, with low prices considering the skill of the cooking.
