More famous for its murals than for its straightforward bistro fare, Café des Artistes is appropriate for a night at the opera or even an elaborate proposal. The natural charm of the space is enhanced by the vivacious paintings of half-naked nymphs, intact since the 1930s. A long wooden bar and extravagant flower arrangements add to the romantic feel, even if you have to rush out to make that 8pm curtain at Lincoln Center.
