D.O.C., for those not steeped in wine culture, stands for denominazione di origine controllata, Italy’s designation for its high quality wines. The proprietors of this shop—who also own D.O.C. Wine Bar—are Italian transplants with a particular talent for pleasing a broad cross-section of Williamsburg’s oenophile crowd. There are, as you might guess, plenty of Italian wines, with an emphasis on more obscure offerings scarcely seen in rival shops. There’s also a diverse selection from around the globe, though Europe’s traditional heavy hitters take top spots. Prices vary from very modest to pricey, though the shop is known for serving customers at every price point.
