Opened in 1972 as the Uris Theatre, this Broadway house was re-named for famed composer George Gershwin and his lyricist brother Ira in 1972. The Gerswhin Theatre is one of Broadway's newer houses, and also one of its largest at 1,933 seats. A variety of productions including Porgy and Bess and Starlight Express have played here, and Broadway juggernaut Wicked has been in residence since 2003.
