First Chinatown encroached on Little Italy's territory, and now a French restaurant has elbowed its way onto storied Mulberry Street. At Patois you'll find a warm welcome, white linen tablecloths and retro light fixtures suffusing the room with a soft glow. There are bargain-priced prix fixe menus at lunch, dinner and brunch, plus mac and cheese for the kids. Dinner specialties include smoked trout with ratatouille, truffled mushrooms over grilled brioche and seared scallops with sweet pea and bacon risotto.
