Billed as an "interdisciplinary gallery and reading room," the Proteus Gowanus Gallery offers public programs and workspaces, collaborative art projects and performances, not to mention a small publishing house, writers' group and a gift shop. The whole enterprise is housed in a 100-year-old box factory in an industrial section of Brooklyn along the Gowanus Canal.
