Al Zirino, a Brooklyn native prone to "bada bing" style vocalizations, isn't who you'd expect as proprietor of an island-inflected ice cream shop in New York City's largest Caribbean community. And yet, Mr. Zirino's Taste the Tropics Ice Cream shop in Flatbush, now in its fourth decade, remains a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Chalk that up to its delicious flavor offerings, which include rummy nut, mango, rum raisin and the perennially popular great nuts—a malty, nutty, butterscotch-infused treat.
