Transportation
Phase 2 of the project will extend the Q subway line, delivering service to East Harlem and Harlem with the creation of stations on Second Avenue at 106 and 116 Streets, as well as 125 Street and Lexington Avenue that will connect to the 4/5/6 subway line and Metro-North Railroad.
Building on the recently completed Terminal 8 (T8) Expansion project, John F. Kennedy Airport announced a commercial redevelopment initiative, including 300-plus new concessions and 60-plus new retail offerings, emphasizing local, minority and women-owned businesses. JFK also saw the groundbreaking of the redevelopment of Terminal 6, which will occupy the site of the former Terminal 6 and Terminal 7, scheduled to open in phases with the completion of the arrivals and departures hall and the first five gates in 2026, and an additional five gates in 2028. Construction is also currently underway at Terminal 1, which will become a state-of-the-art terminal with 23 gates and dining, retail, lounges and recreational space, expected to open in 2026.
In addition to the new Terminal A, offering 33 gates serving Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue and United Airlines and directly connected to a multilevel parking facility, EWR is also working toward a new elevated guideway train system to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and ease traffic congestion. Terminal A was given a prestigious five-star rating by Skytrax, the preeminent aviation industry ratings firm, joining LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B as the only two airport terminals in North America awarded this highest rating.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently unveiled an updated design to replace the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The new Midtown Bus Terminal will replace the 73-year-old terminal with a world-class facility designed to meet projected 2040–2050 commuter growth including a main terminal, new ramps leading directly into and out of the Lincoln Tunnel, a central main entrance, more street-level retail, public open space and a multistory indoor atrium.
Developments
Two Trees Management, developer and manager of Domino Park, has unveiled Domino Square—a one-acre public plaza extending the waterfront esplanade. Designed by Field Operations and Studio Cadena, Domino Square will host year-round community events, beginning with Williamsburg’s first waterfront ice skating rink, which will open in November.
The newly reimagined Pier 97 has opened in Hudson River Park, featuring a sprawling playground with a 26-foot climbing structure, athletic field, and scenic promenade. Highlights also include a sunset deck with stunning Hudson River views, surrounded by 16,000 vibrant flowers and plants.
Bronx Point is a 530,000-square-foot mixed-use development, opening in phases. The development will feature housing, retail, public space, a waterfront promenade and cultural programming including the Hip Hop Museum (opening in 2025).
TSX Broadway, a new development including a hotel—Tempo by Hilton Times Square—The Palace Theatre, dining, retail and entertainment stages is underway and opening in phases, with the recent unveiling of its 18,000-square-foot podium LED display. Visitors and locals can upload 15-second videos to be broadcast over Times Square.
New York City is opening a filtered floating pool at Pier 35, located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, as part of a $1.4 billion revitalization of the waterfront from East 25th Street to Montgomery Street. The upgrades include reconstructed recreation fields, playgrounds, a new water play area, an amphitheater, and improved access with a rebuilt Corlears Hook Bridge and enhanced bikeways.
As part of a private-public partnership, New York City FC will fully finance and build New York’s first professional soccer stadium. The Willets Point project will have 25,000 seats, a new public school, 40,000 square feet of public space and see 2,500 affordable homes built for the community. The project will add an estimated 16,000 jobs and $6 billion to the City’s economy.
HOTELS
The New York City Tourism + Conventions signature program returns in January/February 2025, offering 25% off standard room rates at participating hotels.
This stylish new 97-room hotel includes an all-day restaurant, The Otter, featuring a seafood-heavy menu, as well as a chic cocktail bar, Sloane’s. The new hotel also plans to open a rooftop in 2025 reserved exclusively for in-house guests and friends.
Corinthia, the renowned luxury hotel brand, will open its first NYC location on the Upper East Side. The new 16-story hotel, now open after an extensive rebuild, includes 70 rooms and aims to honor the property's reputation for glamour and sophistication.
The London-based hotel plans to open a sibling site in NYC this fall. Located within the Margaret Louisa Home, the 77-room hotel will include 17 suites, a restaurant and a private club for members.
The luxury hotel recently revealed plans to undergo a series of renovations, including the unveiling of its 3,500 square foot Manhattan Suite on the 25th floor. The renovation will also include upgrades to the hotel’s premier suites, the Rossano Ferretti Hairspa and Spa Nalai.
Following a complete renovation and restoration, the famed hotel is projected to reopen next spring featuring its restored historic public and event spaces along with luxury condominiums and 375 large guest rooms and suites, helmed by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and renowned interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon.
ARTS & CULTURE Expansions & Openings
A groundbreaking $12.5 million investment is bringing the first-ever Dominican Center for the Arts and Culture to northern Manhattan. Partnering with the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute, the venue will be a vibrant cultural hub featuring a museum, theater, children's library and exhibition space, along with an oral history and archives project to preserve and showcase the cultural stories of the Dominican community.
The immersive museum, which also doubles as an event space, is an accessible, family-friendly venue comprising 15 rooms of experiences, including projected art, a 4D sound studio, LED installations, flower rooms and its own signature scent.
The Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) launched a new chapter in Dumbo, Brooklyn, with a location at the Empire Stores building. The museum’s first exhibition, Flavor: The World to Your Brain, is an exploration of the sensory experience of flavors in food, offering visitors insight into how the brain experiences taste, among others.
The center’s newly renovated 2,000-seat Colden Auditorium is Queens’ largest indoor venue.
The first visitor center within the national park system dedicated to LGBTQ+ history opened in June, honoring and exploring the history of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising at a storefront next door to the historic Stonewall Inn.
The museum, which will be housed in National Urban League’s new Harlem headquarters, the Urban League Empowerment Center, will be the first dedicated to the American Civil Rights Movement and one of the only museums in the nation to delve into the movement in the North.
The Frick Collection will return to its original home at The Frick Mansion in early 2025. The repurposed space includes 27,000 square feet of new construction. Additionally, the second floor of the original Frick residence will become accessible to the public for the first time.
The Studio Museum in Harlem will open its new, purpose-built home in fall 2025, featuring extensive exhibition and public spaces designed to serve artists and the Harlem community. To mark the opening, the museum will present a comprehensive showcase of Tom Lloyd’s artwork, alongside a historical installation from its permanent collection spanning over two centuries of art by artists of African descent.
Located just south of Yankee Stadium, this space will pay homage to the South Bronx’s rich culture and history as the birthplace of hip-hop (see Bronx Point in the Developments section above.)
The New Museum broke ground on a 60,000-square-foot expansion, the first since opening its doors in 2007. The seven-story addition will double the museum’s exhibition spaces and feature a new public plaza that will be home to art installations, performances and gatherings.
The Public Theater, in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy, NYC Parks and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, has revitalized the 61-year-old institution, which will open with Twelfth Night, starring Lupita Nyong'o, Peter Dinklage, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sandra Oh. The major investment will dramatically improve the home of Free Shakespeare in the Park, addressing critical infrastructure, accessibility and theatrical needs.
The New-York Historical Society will house a museum dedicated to showcasing global, national and local LGBTQ+ history and culture. Programming is slated to open in 2026.
The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation recently announced a $100 million revitalization of Ellis Island Museum, including technological advancements, reimagined exhibitions and new theaters. In addition to revitalizing the historic museum, the project will expand the Records Discovery Center, increasing the searchable records in its database from 65 million to 154 million.
This cultural center will spotlight NYC’s immigrant communities through theater, music, dance and community events. In partnership with the New York Public Library, it will also provide programs exploring immigrant stories through art and scholarship.
The National Black Theater has embarked on a major capital redevelopment project that will transform the current property. The new multidisciplinary cultural arts facility, dedicated to promoting Black culture through theater, will be housed in 25,000 square feet of a mixed-use development.
The Children’s Museum of Manhattan will open a new 80,000-square-foot location at Central Park West and 96th Street in 2028. The museum will expand its capacity and offer immersive exhibits on topics such as science and the environment. The building will include hands-on learning spaces, a rooftop terrace and an interactive water and sound experience. The museum remains open during construction.

This groundbreaking exhibition commemorates the historic development of a tuberculosis treatment facility on Staten Island in 1951, emphasizing the pivotal role of "The Black Angels," nurses who broke racial barriers and risked their lives to administer the clinical trials. The exhibit features historic objects and archival images, as well as an immersive art film, Back and Song.
Celebrate hip-hop's cultural influence through the iconic and stunning jewelry worn by some of the genre’s biggest stars. The exhibition showcases pieces from Slick Rick’s gem-encrusted crown; the diamond-studded Roc-A-Fella medallion; Nicki Minaj’s "Barbie" diamond pendant; and jewelry from A$AP Rocky; Tyler, the Creator; Erykah Badu; and more.
This group exhibition brings together works recently acquired by the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, inspired by a drawing by queer icon Candy Darling. The show explores the multidimensionality of queer and trans life, embracing plurality, reinvention and fantasy across various media.
Fascinating works by artists from the museum’s permanent collection illustrate some of the ways contemporary practitioners push the boundaries of their practice and use of materials.
This show is the first large-scale museum exhibition centered on visionary artist Alvin Ailey, featuring works of art that inspired him and those that he in turn inspired. The presentation encompasses a multimedia exhibition, daily performance program and scholarly catalog.
Scrap Book features new paintings and a permanent wallpaper installation by artist Evan Paul English, inspired by Alice Austen’s love of scrapbooking and botanical imagery. English reinterprets her archives into modern works, with nine paintings and a wallpaper installation in Austen’s historic home. Visitors can also view Austen's original scrapbooks and process pieces from English’s creative journey.
Featuring over 250 postcards alongside decorative arts, fashion, and architectural models, the exhibition highlights the role postcards played in popularizing Art Deco landmarks like the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and Rockefeller Center.
Berthe Weill, the first woman modern art dealer, championed artists like Picasso, Matisse and Modigliani. This survey features around 110 works shown at her gallery in the early 20th century and highlights her work as a gallerist and advocate.
Magazine Fever: Gen X Asian American Periodicals examines the impact of Asian American magazines in shaping identity during the 1980s and '90s. Featuring over 80 rare issues from notable publications like A. Magazine and Hyphen, the exhibition showcases how these magazines provided a platform for Asian Americans to assert their narratives and portray their identities.
FUTURA 2000: BREAKING OUT is a retrospective of the legendary NYC artist’s career. Running through winter 2025, it showcases five decades of his work, including sculptures, drawings, prints and new installations. The exhibition highlights his signature techniques, science-fiction motifs and the iconic 1980 graffiti piece, Break, which cemented his influence in the art world.
Featuring a diverse range of art, objects, memorabilia and media clips, this exhibition highlights pets' lives in NYC, from early Indigenous cultures to today's pampered companions. It also examines the growing pet population and addresses topics such as pet adoption and the importance of service animals.
A Billion Dollar Dream celebrates the 60th anniversary of the 1964–1965 New York World’s Fair by examining its legacy through social, political and environmental lenses. Featuring materials from the Queens Museum's collection, the exhibition highlights the Fair's promotion of progress and nationhood while reflecting contemporary issues, including civil rights and the women's liberation movement.
Showcasing over 60 works by Ralph Lemon, this exhibition presents dance, sculpture, video and more. Ceremonies Out of the Air will highlight his storytelling through movement and features the central installation Rant redux (2020–24). It will also include a series of live performances that enhance the immersive experience.
Solid Gold celebrates the allure of gold, presenting over 500 works that explore the color and material’s significance in art, fashion, film and design throughout history. Opening for the Brooklyn Museum’s 200th anniversary, the exhibition features stunning pieces from renowned designers like Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, alongside gold-ground paintings, sculptures and jewelry by notable artists such as Alexander Calder and Bulgari.
Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now examines how Black artists and cultural figures have engaged with ancient Egypt through art, literature and performance over nearly 150 years. Featuring around 200 works, the exhibition explores themes like the creation of a unifying identity and the contributions of Black scholars. It also includes a dedicated gallery for performance art, featuring live performances on select days.
The Museum of Modern Art will host this exhibition in celebration of one of its founders and her crucial role in promoting modern art in the US. The exhibit marks 90 years since Bliss’s contributions to MoMA and will feature about 40 works. The exhibition will also display archival materials, highlighting her lasting impact on the museum and the acceptance of modern art in America.
Anne Frank The Exhibition is coming to NYC, presenting a full-scale recreation of Anne Frank's Annex along with over 100 original artifacts, many never seen by the public before. Created by the Anne Frank House in collaboration with the Center for Jewish History, this immersive exhibit provides a unique view into Anne’s life, her writing and her resilience. Visitors will experience the historical context that shaped her story, offering a profound reflection on her legacy.
ANNUAL CELEBRATIONS, BIG EVENTS & ANNIVERSARIES:
Since opening in 1999, Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden’s Chinese Scholar’s Garden has continued to delight guests from all over the globe. Home to one of two authentic classical Chinese gardens built in the United States, Snug Harbor continues to honor the serenity and symbolism of traditional Chinese culture.

NYC will celebrate in a big way as the nation’s first capital, the birthplace of American government and the place where the Bill of Rights was written—as well as placing a focus on the untold stories of Black and Indigenous communities and their impact on NYC’s history.
FIFA has announced New York/New Jersey as the host city for the 2026 World Cup Final. In addition to the final game on July 19, New York/New Jersey will host games on June 13, June 16, June 22, June 25, June 27, June 30 and July 5.
The US Open Golf Championship is one of golf's four major championships, known for its challenging courses and rigorous competition among the world’s top players.
NYC and New Jersey will host the capstone events to kick off the 250th anniversary of America’s Independence. From July 3 through July 8, millions across the nation will witness the largest-ever international flotilla of ships and vessels sailing into the ports of New York and New Jersey. The six-day celebration will also host many festivities including firework displays, food festivals, a special Fleet Week and more.
NYC, along with the state of New Jersey, will be the host city for The Army-Navy Football Game presented by USAA in 2026. The game will be hosted at the Meadowlands Complex as part of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and will be the 19th time the game has been played in New York or New Jersey.

Now open at Rockefeller Center, Skylift at Top of the Rock lifts visitors nearly 900 feet above the City for unparalleled 360-degree views. Perched atop the 70th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the open-air, revolving platform adds an extra three stories to the observation deck, offering the sensation of floating among the City’s skyscrapers. DINING, NIGHTLIFE & MEETING/EVENT VENUES
The New York City Tourism + Conventions signature program runs biannually, offering deals on lunches and dinners at participating restaurants. The next iteration will take place in January/February 2025.
Convene debuted a newly expanded venue at 101 Park Avenue, which includes a new mezzanine level with floor-to-ceiling windows. The mezzanine has a large conference hall with full theatrical lighting that can accommodate up to 223 guests and an open gallery for networking and food breaks.
Private Events at
In addition to a new concert venue, Brooklyn Paramount also hosts private events, accommodating up to 2,000 guests. The fully renovated former movie theater is equipped to hold big events, offering access to a full-service event production team, audio and visual capabilities, and more.
The Vietnamese American and French pastry pop-up opened its first bakery café in NYC at 42 Market Street.
Starting out as a recurring dinner series that eventually led to pop-ups and a stand at Smorgasburg, Cocina Consuelo recently opened in Harlem as a Mexican café by day and restaurant by night.

Eataly continues its expansion in NYC, announcing plans to open another location in Hudson Yards next spring.
Opening next summer, the new Convene 30 Hudson Yards venue will span 72,000 square feet and offer breathtaking views of the City’s iconic skyline. At the top of one of the City’s well-known towers, this spot will feature 10 events spaces including a 780-person grand hall.

Swedish footwear brand Axel Arigato opened its first US store in NYC this summer. The popular company took over the corner of 273 Lafayette Street, offering a selection of their most popular footwear styles as well as a selection of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear.
Banana Republic unveiled its revitalized NYC flagship store in May. The new space, located in the heart of Soho, features an elevated store design and retail experience, allowing shoppers to discover the brand’s high-quality women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories. The store includes the BR Home collection, featuring furniture, lighting and other home goods.
Part menswear shop, part bar and part listening lounge, this boutique in Greenpoint offers organic wine, high-fashion workwear and a range of handpicked records.
The California-based sneaker brand recently opened its first flagship in NYC on Fifth Avenue. The store displays the latest innovations from the brand and has become a community gathering space for local runners in NYC.
Ghirardelli opened its first store at the Empire State Building, joining the growing roster of food and beverage retailers including State Grill and Bar, Chipotle, Chopt, Juice Press and Tacombi.
Salomon opens its first-ever US retail outpost in Soho this month. It will only be open through January 2025, serving as a test for the growing brand as they plan to expand to five physical stores in 2025, beginning with a to-be-announced permanent space in NYC.
This new flea market located under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, organized by the Brooklyn Flea team, will have offerings from vintage sellers as well as various food vendors including Suzume, Burger Supreme, Dirty South Kitchen, and more. BQ Flea will be open every Sunday throughout October and will return next year.
Earlier this month, the popular board game Monopoly rolled out a new version, celebrating the borough of Queens. Luxury clothing brand Saint Laurent is expanding its presence in NYC with the announcement of a flagship store at 70-74 Gansevoort Street. This new location, expected to open in 2024, will join Saint Laurent's existing stores in Soho and Midtown Manhattan.
Earlier this year it was reported that Kim Kardashian’s apparel company signed a lease for a Fifth Avenue retail space. The popular brand is set to open its flagship store in NYC in February, after a successful pop-up at Rockefeller Center this past May.
Next spring, the storied French luxury department store Printemps will open a new retail emporium in NYC, the brand’s first imprint on US soil. It will take over the 50-story landmark building at One Wall Street, bringing a local approach and seamless experiences for shoppers.
